Position Summary
Academic Advisor - Center for Academic Advising - Full-Time
Academic Advising is seeking an academic advisor who will be responsible for providing quality academic advising services to current undergraduate students. The Academic Advisor is responsible for staying current on policies and procedures as they relate to academic advising and building relationships with colleges and academic departments. The Academic Advisor will work collaboratively within Academic Advising, making appropriate student referrals within the Center and to other resources across campus.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide developmental academic advising for undergraduate students who are advised through the Academic Advising Center
- Serve as a resource to students and faculty to interpret academic policies and procedures, academic objectives, major options, and registration procedures
- Teach students the skills to self-navigate to degree completion utilizing campus information, student portal, Degree Works, university bulletin, college/department policies and procedures, and online resources
- Utilize technology such as SupportNET, Degree Works, and Banner to monitor student academic progress, making appropriate referrals to campus resources, follow up with tracking items, and maintain accurate records on advisees and confidential student services records
- Monitor student academic progress, including follow-up with students based on midterm grades and academic probation status, making appropriate referrals to student support units
- Onboard new students by coordinating their enrollment at freshman orientation, transfer orientation, and international student orientation
- Assist with training of graduate assistants and student workers
- Membership on Academic Advising Council, Professional Advisor Team, College Councils, and other committees that relate to academic advising and student success
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of academic advising, counseling, or a closely related area through work experience or an educational setting
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience working as part of a team in a collaborative work environment
- Evidence of the ability to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend hours, consistent with student needs
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
