Overview Academic & Student Success Advisor - University College
The University College at Purdue University Northwest is seeking an Academic and Student Success Advisor. The primary purpose of the Academic & Student Success Advisor is to provide individual, appreciative, and transformational advising to students on matters such as selection of major, course selection and sequencing, and academic performance.
Salary:
- $50,000
Schedule:
- Monday - Friday: Typically 8:30 - 4:30 with occasional evening work during peak periods; will flex schedule to accommodate
Duties and Responsibilities Academic & Student Success Advisor - University College
- Advise and provide guidance to student processes and responsibilities necessary to satisfy academic requirements to declare a major and successfully transition into that major in order to graduate. This role works primarily with Transfer Students
- Proactively reach out to targeted populations and maintains current and accurate records documenting individual student progress toward degree requirements
- Utilize all resources to support and strengthen communication and outreach with assigned population
- Discuss with and assist students in completing and processing necessary academic forms
- Work closely with faculty, administration, student outreach services, and other Purdue University Northwest staff in implementing, evaluating and improving student retention
- Participate in the evaluation of the effectiveness of programs, courses, advising materials, policies and procedures
- Assist students identified as academically at risk and participate in the development and implementation of intervention efforts by the University
- Refers students to appropriate offices, learning resources and personnel as needed
- Provide a positive environment which assists students in their personal and academic growth and development
- Serve as an instructor for the First Year Experience course, GS 19100
- Contribute to the planning and assessment of GS 19100 curriculum
- Maintain accurate grade keeping records for the assigned GS 19100 section(s)

Education Academic & Student Success Advisor - University College
- Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field (e.g., social work, counseling, education)
Experience Academic & Student Success Advisor - University College
- Three years of professional work experience required
- Professional work experience within a public higher education setting in an academic advising, with Transfer Students, and/or retention-related position preferred

- Ability to learn, understand, interpret and relay the full range of student services available, including enrollment services, academic policies & procedures of PNW and associated federal & state regulations
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Possess excellent written, verbal, organizational, and time management skills
- Adapt to changes and willingness to learn new things
- Initiate & maintain professional relationships with diverse groups & sensitivity to the needs of students
- May have to work evening & weekend hours during peak registration periods
- Strong interpersonal and human relations skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality is essential
- Bilingual Skills, preferred
