Job Description
The Access Services Law Librarian plans, organizes, and supervises the activities of the circulation department, interprets library policies for patrons, and coordinates library activities with other department heads.
- Provides library services following established standards.
- Oversees daily circulation operations, including managing opening and closing procedures, circulation desk activities, and patron services across all service hours.
- Supervise and manage the circulation student workforce, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and promoting a high standard of service. Develop staffing schedules and ensure consistent coverage across the library's hours of operation. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for student workers.
- Oversee all aspects of interlibrary loan services, including lending, borrowing, and document delivery.
- Supervise and manage the physical collection's upkeep, including stack maintenance, shelf-reading, shifting projects, and reserve collection. Coordinate loose-leaf filing, bindery functions, and microform maintenance.
- Performs bibliographic searches.
- Develops guides to the library collection and research aids.
- Promotes and represents library to internal and external clients. Work with the library leadership team on access initiatives for the library's special collections and display collections.
- Participates in collection development relating to access to the collection. Collaborate with library leadership to design and enforce patron access policies and user conduct standards.
- Collect, analyze, and report circulation statistics and access trends to inform service improvements.
- Assist patrons with library equipment and troubleshooting common technical issues related to printing, scanning, Wi-Fi, and devices.
- Work closely with technical services, reference and administrative staff to support strategic projects and shared goals.
- Provide basic reference services and contribute to instructional programming as needed.
- Participate in Student Engagement and library orientation efforts.
- Ensure accurate and timely updates to physical and digital signage for library hours and access information.
- Coordinate with facilities and campus security for building operations, safety protocols, and space usability.
- Candidates holding a J.D. may be eligible to teach in the legal research curriculum in collaboration with the reference and instructional services team.
- Performs various tasks as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Job Requirements
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Working Conditions:
- Physical: Ability to engage in repetitive motions and sit for extended periods. Ability to lift, bend, stoop, and carry. Ability to climb stairs, step up on stools, and access overhead materials from library shelving.
- Environmental: Standard office environment with frequent exposure to deadlines and busy periods; occasional travel and interactions across campus and community stakeholders.
Departmental Preferences:
- A master's degree in library science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library school.
- A J.D. from an ABA-approved law school.
- Three or more years of experience in an academic library, preferably an academic law library, providing access services or similar public services.
- Experience coordinating and managing interlibrary loan and document delivery services, including familiarity with interlibrary loan software.
- Experience using Ex Libris products, including Alma.
- Experience working with new and emerging technologies in libraries.
