Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.
Job Summary
The Accountant I, II, or III handles financial record-keeping, reporting, and analysis within a university setting. The "I", "II", and "III" denote increasing levels of experience, responsibility, and complexity of tasks. The required experience will increase progressively for more years of experience required as you move up the levels.
The Accountant I, II or III handles complex financial tasks, including maintaining various accounting records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations. The Accountant I, II or III will analyzing financial data, reconciling accounts, supporting the university's budgeting and auditing processes and ensuring compliance with university, local, state, and federal regulations. They may also provide guidance to other staff and departments on accounting matters

Responsibilities
- Works closely with the senior management and the Controller in the areas of Revenue Collections, Accounts Payables, Payroll, and General Accountings as needed.
- Responsible for successful completion of daily journals for related accounting sub systems (AR, Payroll journals).
- Responsible for the reconciliation of an assigned subset of accounts, units and/or business activities as assigned by the Controller.
- Plays a vital role in related projects such as monthly and annual year-end closeout and preparation of documentation for annual audits.
- Reconcile health, life and retirement reports and payments to appropriate agencies and vendors.
- Reconcile payroll liability accounts.
- Analyze and research general ledger accounts to explain unusual items.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Assist/perform daily Banner closeout procedures.
- Prepare documents for archiving.
- Record Cashier sessions.
- Assist students with accounts and other information.
- Perform cashiering duties.
- Assists with the resolution of cash management issues of federal, state and private student financial aid programs and other granting agencies as required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Controller.
- Collaborates with the Bursar's office and grants and contracts regarding fund drawdown timing and disbursements.
- Assist with requests from both internal and external auditors
Required Qualifications
Accountant I
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field. 6 months to a year of experience in Accounting or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
Accountant II
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field. 1 to 2 years of experience in Accounting or related field. 1 year of experience using a computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel etc.). Past experience in working within a complex integrated accounting software system is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
Accountant III
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field. 3 to 4 years of experience in Accounting or related field. A n equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
Accountant I
Two years of experience in Accounting or related field. Certified professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
Accountant II
3 years of experience in Accounting or related field. Banner and PeopleSoft Financial experience preferred. Past work history must demonstrate progressive levels of responsibility in the area of accounting with preference given to the fund accounting area. Certified professional Accountant (CPA) designation
Accountant III
5 years of experience in Accounting or related field. Certified professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
Proposed Salary
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of Board of Regents procedures and policies. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board including local state and federal rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of Peoplesoft Financial Software. Skilled in oral and written communication. Skilled in customer service. Skilled in developing financial documents and supporting schedules. Ability to manage time and projects. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle protected data. Ability to recognize and implement efficiencies in processes and procedures.
