Yakima Valley College seeks an innovative adjunct medical billing and coding instructor in the Allied Health Department. This is not a remote position. This position is part-time, non-tenure track.

Reporting to the dean – Workforce Education, the medical billing and coding instructor demonstrates a commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilizes appropriate technology in the classroom, and has a record as a successful instructor demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division.

The medical billing and coding instructor values opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, finds ways to utilize cooperative learning, and utilizes various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction.

Salary

$920.00 per instructional unit (IU)

Up to 10 IUs per quarter

Essential tasks

  • Prepare and teach courses as assigned within the Allied Health Medical Billing and Coding (AHBC) program in person, hybrid and/or online as assigned
  • Update AHBC curriculum as required by the institution or industry trends
  • Collaborate with department team members
  • Maintain required licensure
  • Maintain currency in the field of study
  • Maintain required professional development plan if teaching load places instructor in this category for professional technical educators
  • Meet college deadlines
  • Follow college policy and procedure

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in healthcare field
  • Qualification with appropriate training and certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or other appropriate healthcare provider certification or licensure
  • Three years of recent relevant employment
  • Eligibility for vocational certification in the State of Washington

Preferred qualifications:

  • An earned bachelor’s degree in healthcare or closely related field
  • Experience teaching via distance education modes (online courses, interactive TV courses, etc.)
  • Experience teaching at the community college level
  • Experience teaching Allied Health courses
  • Experience developing curriculum
  • Ability to communicate knowledge and skills in both oral and written forms to students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds
  • Proven ability to work with the community and healthcare providers to create training and curriculum to meet workforce needs

Ability to:

  • Teach in person, hybrid, or online as assigned
  • Create and update curriculum for specified course content in medical billing and coding
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance student learning
  • Work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff, and students as part of an education team
  • Complete grading and respond to students in a timely manner
  • Be student-centered and focused on creating an environment conducive to meeting their learning needs
  • Continually upgrade knowledge and skills in order to maintain relevant curriculum
