This is a part-time adjunct position with ongoing recruitment. The assignment includes teaching responsibilities as needed, with potential opportunities for future courses. Courses may be scheduled during the day or evening at various college locations. Regular campus presence is expected.

Position Summary

Kellogg Community College is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated individual with strong instructional skills to serve as an Adjunct Instructor for courses within the Medical Assistant (MA) Program. To be considered for this position, this individual must possess a current Medical Assistant Certification or Credential at the time of application submission.

This part-time adjunct position reports to the Director of Allied Health Programs. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, delivering high-quality instruction in accordance with program standards, supporting curriculum development, and ensuring compliance with accreditation and state approval requirements. The selected candidate will be expected to maintain a regular presence on campus for instruction and student support.

Medical Assisting faculty and/or instructional staff must be current and competent in the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) Core Curriculum content included in their assigned teaching, as evidenced by education or experience and documented education in instructional methodology.

Physical Demands

The job responsibilities are performed in a classroom, lab, and presentation setting. Travel by car may be required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Current Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (AMT), or equivalent credential recognized by an accrediting agency.
  2. Minimum of three years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
  3. Current BLS CPR Provider Certification.
  4. Proficiency in clinical and administrative skills related to the Medical Assisting field.
  5. Must be a resident of Michigan or Indiana.

Preferred but not Required

  1. Associate or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Prior teaching experience in Medical Assisting or a related healthcare field.
  3. Experience with high-fidelity medical simulation and debriefing technology.
  4. Community college teaching experience.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work within a team and apply principles of continuous quality improvement.
  6. Experience working with a diverse student population.
  7. Commitment to lifelong learning and the advancement of higher education.
  8. Experience in learner-centered pedagogy and instructional technology.

Proposed Salary

Based on current Board-approved rates.

Job Duties

Essential Function: INSTRUCTION

  • Provide instruction in accordance with KCC and Allied Health Department policies.
  • Engage with faculty and industry partners to ensure a current and relevant MA curriculum.
  • Develop and deliver course materials, learning activities, and assessments.
  • Integrate medical simulation and emerging technologies into instruction.
  • Coordinate lab activities with didactic course content.
  • Provide academic advising, mentorship, and remediation to students.
  • Submit grades and class records in compliance with policies and deadlines.
  • Identify and mentor qualified MA adjunct faculty.
  • Ensure program accreditation compliance and state approval.
  • Serve as a program representative for students and the community.
  • Collaborate with local businesses, K-12 schools, and post-secondary institutions.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes and strategic planning.
  • Engage in professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Maintain current professional credentials as required by Medical Assisting Education Review Board accreditation standards.
