Adjunct, Music Technology
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean, the Adjunct Faculty member will teach a lower-division music technology course (MUSC 1515). This course is usually the first step in several of the degrees and certificates offered at SLCC, and is a prerequisite for subsequent courses.
This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.
This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
2) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within 30 days of hire.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach in-person courses in beginning and intermediate music production.
- Instruct students in the use of music technologies, including microphones, MIDI, and digital audio.
- Teach music production using one or more standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), such as Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper, etc.
- Offer timely, constructive feedback on assignments and return graded work in accordance with department standards.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and grades for institutional and financial aid purposes.
- Inform students of their academic progress regularly and submit final grades by published deadlines.
- Respond to student inquiries and concerns promptly, typically within 1-2 business days.
- Provide ADA accommodations as requested and enforce FERPA guidelines.
- Adhere to all college policies, with particular attention to those governing professional interactions and instructional responsibilities.
- Maintain professional etiquette and appearance in all communications and interactions with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Prepare and submit incident reports for inappropriate student behavior in accordance with the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
- Complete all required employee trainings and maintain collegial behavior within the department and institution.
- Participate in departmental meetings, juries, and collaborative activities as needed to support the music program and student success.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proficiency in at least one of the following DAWs: Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper.
- Strong working knowledge of digital music production, including recording, mixing, and mastering.
- Ability to teach technical and creative aspects of music production in an engaging and accessible way.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College
- Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities
All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated ability to teach students in music subjects, such as audio production, music mixing, bands, introduction to music, or similar hands-on music courses.
- Experience demonstrated in one or more industry-standard Digital Audio.
- Workstation environments; Pro Tools, Cubase, Ableton, Reaper, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in music, music technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university,
- A record of successful teaching in the discipline at the college/university level.
- Familiarity with system networking technology, especially Dante AV0IP and MIDI systems.
- Experience in leading bands, orchestras, jazz, popular music bands, and/or other instrumental music groups in an educational setting.
- Relevant industry experience.
- Record of successful and paid experience with curriculum development of music courses.
- Record of successful and paid experience teaching online classes and working in online educational platforms.
- Record of successful and paid experience with supervising and/or advising students.
- Experience as a producer in a recording studio environment.
- Up-to-date knowledge of industry practices.
