Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Department Administrator and a full-time faculty mentor, the successful candidate will prepare and teach various social work classes within the social work program.

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  1. Effectively prepare and teach Social Work classes to facilitate student learning as stipulated in the course syllabi (uploaded by the department into simple syllabus).
  2. With the assistance of a full-time faculty mentor, update the canvas course page with adjunct faculty specific information and contact pages, course calendar, due dates and weekly lesson plans.
  3. Demonstrate a depth of knowledge and understanding in the field of Social Work.
  4. Maintain consistent and frequent student communication. Respond to all student emails within 24 hours.
  5. Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization
  6. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
  7. Show up for in-person classes at least 10 minutes prior to the class start time.
  8. Grade course assignments, tests, etc. and provide feedback in a timely fashion within 10 days of due date.
  9. Maintain student course attendance records and course grades.
  10. Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance as outlined in the syllabus provided by the department.
  11. Inform students of progress-to-date periodically as well as assign and submit final grades by published deadlines.
  12. Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  13. If needed, prepare and submit incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
  14. Maintain professional and collegial behavior at all times.
  15. Handle/respond to student concerns/complaints and respond to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days).
  16. Maintain professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  17. Complete all required employee trainings by the due dates specified.
  18. Know and enforce FERPA guidelines
  19. Provide ADA accommodations for students as requested by the accessibility and disability services office.
  20. Attend social work program related events.
  21. Other job-related duties as needed
  22. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College
  23. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities

All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses.

You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.

You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

Minimum qualifications

  1. Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university with at least 9 semester hours of graduate-level coursework in the topic being taught.
  2. Minimum 1 year experience in a clinical or professional social work setting.
  3. Current Social Work License in good standing through DOPL.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate course subject matter to students as outlined in the CCO (course curriculum outline).
  5. Ability to efficiently use a computer, Canvas, Microsoft Office 365, and other instructional technologies.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to the Social Work values.
  7. Ability to communicate and work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Some college level teaching experience is desirable.
