Description

The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for Academic Associate positions during the 2025-2026 academic year. These positions assist SCRD faculty in teaching courses for our undergraduate and graduate programs.

Academic Associates are part-time, adjunct faculty who are hired on one-semester, renewable contracts to assist with teaching one or two courses (not to exceed 0.40 FTE) per semester, either in-person or online. Academic Associate positions are fixed-term appointments that are not eligible for benefits, sabbaticals, or tenure. The salary is set at $2,000 per course. Official transcripts are required prior to employment. Individuals employed as Academic Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits eligible appointments at Arizona State University.

For this position, we seek to attract a robust pool of qualified people with expertise teaching in the field of nonprofit leadership management and are available to teach in-person on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus, as well as a pool of faculty who are also able to teach online.

The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) is one of the four schools in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions, a vibrant community of scholars actively committed to excellence in education and innovative responses to collective problems. Watts College has a student body of over 6747 undergraduate and graduate students. SCRD is located at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus, a dynamic hub of the multi-campus Arizona State University that provides a multitude of academic and professional connections for students. We provide internationally recognized interdisciplinary research expertise and innovative academic programs in community development, therapeutic recreation, nonprofit leadership and management, parks, recreation and sport management, and tourism development and management. Courses are delivered through in-person, online, and hybrid platforms.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate(s) will assist faculty with in-person or online courses. Specific duties may include grading student work, preparing course materials, teaching specific lessons, tutoring or running study sessions, holding office hours, moderating discussion boards, and responding to student questions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned master’s degree by time of appointment in nonprofit leadership and management, educational leadership, public administration or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
  • Consistent with ASU’s Charter, a demonstrated commitment to inclusion.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2 years full-time relevant clinical/professional experience in nonprofit leadership management, educational leadership, public administration or allied field, at the time of appointment
  • Experience working across multiple sectors, especially in leadership capacities
  • Prior teaching and/or training experience, higher education teaching experience is preferred
  • Experience with technology/course management systems such as Canvas
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills

Application Deadline: 

The initial application deadline is May 30, 2025. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool throughout the fiscal year, which closes on June 30, 2026. Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received until the position is filled.
