Asian Ethnology Intern, Summer 2026

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

As part of the Anthropology Internship Program, the Division of Anthropology is seeking a part-time, term Asian Ethnology Intern for Summer 2026. The Internship Program is for undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in anthropology, museums or related fields. Anthropology interns work on projects relating to the collections or the ongoing research interests of the curatorial staff in the Museum or in the field.

The Intern can expect to work between 10-20 hours per week.

The Intern will aid the curator in ongoing research projects including tasks including but not restricted to updating an EndNote database and doing research in support of ongoing projects (i.e., tracking sources, compiling annotated bibliographies, doing/reporting on archival research). The last day applications will be accepted is April 15th.

Job duties include:

  • Update an existing EndNote database by entering sources and carefully transcribing (or, where possible, pasting in) the Curator's reading notes, carefully noting page numbers.
  • Research as directed by the curator which might include on-line, library, and/or archival sources, results documented in brief, accurate reports.
  • Research may include tracking topical sources and preparing an annotated bibliography.

The expected salary for the Asian Ethnology Intern is $20/hour. This position is overtime-eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in anthropology, Asian studies, museum studies or a related field.
  • Experience compiling an annotated bibliography.
  • Experience in Asian studies.
  • Museum experience.
