Augustana University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Director of Community & Belonging in the Dean of Students Office. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position with a regular schedule of Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends as needed. The title (Assistant or Associate Director) will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and support for initiatives that foster an inclusive and welcoming campus community.
- Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to enhance belonging and engagement.
- Support student programming and initiatives designed to strengthen community and retention.
- Partner with the Dean of Students Office on advocacy, advising, and resources for underrepresented populations.
- Coordinate campus events, workshops, and trainings that advance community and belonging.
- Assist in assessing and enhancing programs and services.
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field.
- Academic or professional preparation in areas such as college student development, curriculum design, intercultural communication, leadership development, or fields related to global, social, or cultural understanding.
- 2–5 years of full-time, professional experience working with college students in a higher education setting.
- Experience supporting students from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences, including first-generation college students, international students, students of color, and students with diverse identities, in roles such as student organization advising, leadership development, or student staff supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in event planning, workshop facilitation, and office administration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Interacting with students, faculty, and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view—and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture—must be a top value of the candidate.
