Staff Associate for Multicultural Affairs - Worcester State University
General Statement of Duties: The Staff Associate for Multicultural Affairs will primarily be responsible for the coordination of the Upward Bound Program, collaboration and support of other pipeline programs, and assisting with retention efforts and skills development associated with programs within the OMA office. In doing so, the incumbent will work with students from recruitment to the post-college experience, tracking students' progress using both qualitative and quantitative measurements.
Responsibilities:
- (E) Assumes primary responsibility for the coordination of the Upward Bound program for both the academic year and the summer program. (Requires availability of Saturdays and overnight for residential summer component.)
- (E) Provides outreach and recruits program participants for Upward Bound and Alternatives for Individual Development (A.I.D.).
- (E) Recruits, trains and serves as coordinator to peer advisors.
- (E) Collaborate with UB staff to design, implement curriculum of instruction.
- (E) Coordinates the OMA Skills Development intake and wraparound services with support from the A.I.D. Coordinator.
- (E) In conjunction with the A.I.D. coordinator, advises and assists program participants who are university juniors and seniors to develop a transition path post-college experience.
- (E) In conjunction with the A.I.D. coordinator, assumes leadership and coordinates Young Women's Circle and/or Young Men's Group, and advises student leadership-Women in STEM; and First-Generation Student Nation.
- (E) Assists the Director in collaborating with university partners across divisions and in the community to further develop, promote and achieve program goals and objectives including educational, multicultural student engagement, mentorship, co-curricular, and leadership development opportunities.
- (E) Provides academic support to all program participants.
- (E) Provides assistance, collaboration and support with other pipeline programs with OMA.
- (E) Coordinates WSU Upward Bound Alumni annual networking and cultural activities.
- (E) Maintains accurate data, both qualitative and quantitative to measure the effectiveness of programming and to monitor students' progress; completes reports as necessary.
- (E) Assists the Director as necessary.
- (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
- (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
- (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- 1 - 3 years of related work experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with educational student development.
- Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience with educational, cultural, and recreational programming.
- Availability to work off hours including some Saturdays and overnights to accommodate the residential summer component of Upward Bound.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree
