Position Description: The Iowa Writers’ Workshop seeks a fiction writer to join its permanent faculty. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Fiction. Candidates should have a distinguished record of publication, including at least one book of fiction, and to have made meaningful progress towards a second book. We expect candidates to have substantial experience in teaching, preferably at the graduate level. A generous interest in the work of talented student writers is essential. Full-time faculty are expected to maintain residence in the Iowa City area during the academic year and to be active participants in the life of the program. Fiction faculty teach two graduate-level fiction courses per semester. Start date is August 19, 2026.

Education Requirement: A terminal degree, or equivalent as reflected in a record of publication and professional activity by the position start date.

Required Qualifications:

• A distinguished record of publication, including at least one book of fiction
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching fiction, preferably at the graduate level.
• Strong interest in the work of talented student writers. Commitment to supervising MFA theses and actively participating in admissions.
• Desire to engage in the life of a vibrant writing program.

Desirable Qualifications:

• A second published book of exceptional quality, or significant progress toward a second book.
• Experience and interest in developing a program committed to the growth of artists.
