About the Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences

The Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences department prioritizes values that reflect those of the university at large including a shared commitment to community, accessibility, diversity, respect and excellence (cadre). The successful candidate will join a collaborative team that includes four full-time faculty, three full-time clinical educators, and a talented group of professional staff and part-time affiliates. We offer both an undergraduate degree in speech, language, hearing sciences and a graduate degree in speech-language pathology, with an optional concentration in bilingual (Spanish-English) service provision. The Bookhardt Family Speech-Language Clinic is a no-cost, on-campus clinic that supports the greater Denver-metro community.

Our department strives to improve how knowledge is translated from the classroom to the clinic by breaking down traditional educational silos. We encourage students to join faculty in clinical research and advocacy efforts. These collaborative projects have received external funding and been shared with national audiences. With the newly launched simulation and skills lab and the opening of the Gina and Frank Day Health Institute Tower in Fall 2027, there are significant opportunities for interprofessional partnerships and community-serving programs.

Position Summary

The Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences at MSU Denver invites applications for a faculty position at the assistant or associate professor rank. This is a nine-month faculty contract beginning in Fall 2026, with the possibility of joining our team in Spring 2026 (semester not applied towards tenure and promotion). Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation though not required.

MSU Denver has a robust mentoring program for tenure-track faculty. The candidate will be enrolled in the Roadrunner Faculty Academy during their first year. This is a year-long course designed to support new faculty navigate faculty life and thrive in teaching, scholarly activity and service.

Responsibilities

This is a full-time tenure track/tenured faculty position (9-month) with a focus on teaching, advising, scholarship and service. Teaching includes multiple delivery modes such as in-person, hybrid and asynchronous courses; on-campus teaching is required each semester. The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, with assignments to both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Opportunities for course releases may be available to support integration/collaboration with the Bookhardt Family Speech-Language Clinic.

Other duties include advising students in academic planning and career exploration; serving on departmental, university and professional committees; and pursuing scholarly activities related to the discipline.

Our department prioritizes engaged scholarship focused on community impact and serving the public good, which addresses one or more of the following issues:

  • Professional preparation of diverse students including students with intersectional identities
  • Innovations in clinical service delivery
  • Impacts of inter-professional education and practice
  • Inequities in clinical service provision with historically marginalized populations

Required Qualifications

  • Earned research doctorate in speech-language pathology or commensurate field
  • Certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • Holds or is eligible for SLP license from Colorado's Department of Regulatory Agencies
  • Evidence of independent, university-level teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Focus areas in voice and/or neurogenic communication disorders
  • Instructor of record for one or more undergraduate and/or graduate course(s) in SLHS discipline
  • Evidence of high-impact teaching practices across different teaching modalities
  • Clinical experience supporting individuals with neurogenic disorders of communication and/or swallowing
  • Commitment to increasing access to education/services for under-represented and historically minoritized groups
  • Engagement in interprofessional collaboration
  • Scholarly agenda that aligns with departmental priorities for scholarship
  • Pursuit and/or receipt of grants

Salary for Announcement

The salary ranges for this faculty position are $66,000 - $74,000 at Assistant Professor rank and $76,000 - $84,000 at Associate Professor rank. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
