Position description

The Neuroscience Department at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Project Scientist at the Assistant or Associate rank in the Lammel Lab, in the area of neurobiology of motivated behavior. The Lammel lab uses a combination of molecular and system neuroscience tools to visualize, record and manipulate neural populations in order to understand their function and contribution to motivated behavior.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a vibrant and highly collaborative environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The successful candidate will utilize transgenic mouse models to characterize neuropeptide function in various brain regions using in vivo electrophysiology, in vivo fiber photometry and various manipulation methods including optogenetics to modulate neural activity during behavioral assays. The position will keep detailed records of experiments performed, conclusions made, and communication of results orally and through lab notebook records. In addition to advancing research projects in the lab, the position is expected to contribute to the authoring of grant proposals, manuscripts, and conference papers.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD (or equivalent international degree)

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
At least two years post Post-PhD research experience

Preferred qualifications

• A strong scientific track record with peer-reviewed publication(s).
• Previous experience working with in vivo electrophysiology, neuroanatomy, rodent behavior and/or bioinformatics is an advantage.
• Previous experience working on neuropeptides.
• Programming skills (MATLAB, Python) and ability in data analysis and visualization is a strong advantage.
