We are seeking an Assistant Director Admissions who will serve on the Admissions team and collaborates with Admissions leadership to design, implement, and manage recruitment strategies. As a subject matter expert, the Assistant Director Admissions will provide advice and mentorship to other Admissions staff in area of expertise and has additional, specific job responsibilities related to that area of expertise. May also include limited supervisory responsibilities.

The position will involve in-person and virtual recruitment, as well as significant projects across the office which may include working with student volunteer groups, collaborating on office programs, responding to and working with prospective students and families, and engaging university partners. The Assistant Director Admissions will also be responsible for large roles in larger projects that work towards office priorities and goals.

The Assistant Director Admissions has a specialized focus on international recruitment initiatives, requiring demonstrated experience in international recruitment and admissions, as well as an understanding of global education systems.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide management and oversight for assigned projects and project-based teams within the recruitment function
  • Collaborate with Admissions leadership in providing ongoing in-house training and professional development.
  • Lead and manage recruitment and application review for an assigned region (domestic and/or international territory) or applicant group. Recruitment responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Build relationships and hosting presentations in the market.
    • Visit high schools and community organizations.
    • Develop knowledge and familiarity with the secondary school landscape in their region.
    • Provide and analyze data and prepare reports to evaluate recruitment strategies.
  • Conduct information sessions, support tours as needed and respond to routine requests from prospective applicants and families, as well as counselors.
  • Will be expected to represent and be knowledgeable about the academics, student experience and financial aid programs at Hopkins
  • Lead programming and events staffing as assigned.
  • Ensure timely and effective compilation of materials for admission committee review.
  • Make scholarship recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of admission committee decisions and scholarship awards
  • Manage internal and external relationships: Faculty, counselors, prospective students and families, current students, university administrators, high school counselors, alumni.
  • Must be service and team oriented and aware of the needs and concerns of a selective private university.
  • May include supervision of other designated Admissions roles.
  • The Assistant Director Admissions will have other responsibilities, to be determined around a specific project or program area. These responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, hiring and training student volunteers, developing materials for recruitment workshops and other events, assisting with messaging and presentation delivery, building international recruitment plans, or furthering initiatives related to access and diversity.
  • Travel and night/weekend work may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

In addition to the duties described above

  • Develop and implement annual recruitment and communications strategies for assigned programs and target student populations, including international students.
  • Review and evaluate applications, making admissions recommendations based on established criteria.
  • Create tailored outreach campaigns for diverse audiences, including domestic and international prospective students.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications to ensure brand consistency and measure campaign effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Ability to travel domestically on a regular basis and internationally on an occasional basis.
  • Evening and/or weekend work required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Demonstrated experience working with international applicants, including working knowledge of admissions credential evaluation, visa processes, and cross-cultural communication.
  • Understanding of international credential evaluation services (WES, ECE, IERF) and familiarity with English proficiency testing (TOEFL, IELTS, DET) and score interpretation.
  • Previous experience recruiting outside the United States, including familiarity with international education systems and cultural considerations.
  • Previous work with Slate or comparable student information systems and CRM platforms.

On call or non-standard work hour requirements

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM, with occasional additional evening and weekend hours for recruitment and admissions events.

Work Arrangement

Telecommuting with in-person attendance as required for divisional and department events held on the Johns Hopkins University campus.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel,PowerPoint, and Outlook.
