Job Description:
The Assistant Director (AD) role provides guidance and leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office (FAO). This includes overseeing staff, focusing on compliance, efficient use of technology, communications, and customer service. Additionally, the AD acts as the lead financial administrator in the absence of the director. Overall, this position plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient and compliant operations within the FAO, while also contributing to staff development, outreach efforts and program enhancement.
This is accomplished by participation in state, regional, and national development training. This position will provide training & support to staff; assist in policies and procedures compliance; collaborating with other College departments; serving as a liaison with the Department of Education as needed. Other duties include maintaining and troubleshooting the financial aid database; and creating efficiencies, assisting with annual audits, programs reviews, FISAP, final reconciliation and other required reports managing aid administration. The AD will serve on committees and participate in outreach activities and develop program materials.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree
Required Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of financial aid experience in a higher education setting AND 2 years of experience in an accounting, banking, or non-profit financial assistance role.
• Minimum of one year of supervisory experience
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Ability to interpret and implement federal and state regulations
• Strong communication and customer service skills with a student-centered approach
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines accurately
• Proficiency with EXCEL
• Proven ability to supervise, train and support staff
• Proficient in the use of Student Information Systems
• Ability to work with all levels
• Strong attention to detail skills
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
