Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in higher education, college student affairs, counseling, or related field preferred. Three (3) – Five (5) years of administrative and appropriate program experience (i.e. student conduct at an institution of higher education) preferred.

Position Summary: The Assistant Director for Student Conduct (University Housing) serves as the Office of Student Conduct’s liaison to University Housing and is the main point of contact for all University Housing staff members. The Assistant Director is responsible for reviewing all reports of misconduct that are referred to the Office of Student Conduct and exercises independent judgment in determining appropriate case routing, coordinating closely with University Housing and University Police, as needed. The Assistant Director also provides guidance and oversight to the University Housing Community Guide processes and will work collaboratively with the Student Conduct Staff and University Housing staff on resolution of these cases. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director for Student Conduct.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement while maintaining effective working relations with members of the University community. Understanding of student development concepts and the ability to utilize them in student conduct matters. Understanding of the role of student conduct at a large, complex institution. Knowledge of higher education conduct issues, policies, and due process. In-depth understanding of residence life philosophy and practices. Ability to make decisions independently. Possess computer knowledge and skills and be able to utilize word processing, email, internet, and calendar and database programs. Ability to manage detailed work and balance time demands well. Ability to work evenings and weekend hours.

Duties/Responsibilities: Oversee the adjudication of all student conduct cases originating in University Housing, analyzing student misconduct in the residence halls and responding to behavior by fully utilizing the resources of the Office of Student Conduct, University Police, and University Housing. Manage and maintain a cooperative working partnership between the Office of Student Conduct and University Housing, serving as a liaison to University Housing and attending meetings with University Housing Residential Programs and Services staff. Serve as the point of contact for staff members in University Housing regarding the referral of student conduct matters. Communicate with the University Housing staff members regarding residence hall conduct and collaborate with Assistant Directors regarding the assignment of University Housing community guide cases. Coordinate with the Assistant Director for Student Conduct (Investigations) for all investigations of cases originating in University Housing. Plan and facilitate ongoing training programs for University Housing staff. Provide oversight for assessment initiatives for cases originating in University Housing. Remain abreast of Advocate system functions and provide training on use and work flow changes. Assist the Director for Student Conduct in outreach/education regarding the student conduct process.

Percentage of time: 60

General Administrative and Case Management: Receive and conduct prompt reviews of reports of alleged student misconduct and independently determine appropriate response. Manage case assignments for Office of Student Conduct (OSC) staff. Complete administrative job functions in a timely manner. Participate in various Division and University committees. Perform other duties as assigned.
