Assistant Director of Student Bridge and Mentoring
Job Description
The Assistant Director of Student Bridge and Mentoring Programs at Coppin State University supports the successful execution of summer bridge initiatives and year-round mentoring programs designed to increase retention, enhance academic performance, and ease the college transition for incoming and at-risk students. Reporting to the Director of Student Mentoring and Bridge Programs, the Assistant Director plays a vital role in the day-to-day coordination of student-facing activities, peer mentor supervision, communication with stakeholders, and operational logistics.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and guidance to peer mentors, resident assistants, and part-time staff supporting bridge and mentoring programs.
- Coordinate daily operations of the Summer Academic Success Academy (SASA), including academic scheduling, workshop logistics, student communication, and evening/weekend programming.
- Assist with onboarding and training for summer staff, including student peer leaders and faculty participants.
- Monitor and track student attendance, performance, and participation across bridge and mentoring programs.
- Communicate with campus partners such as Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Residence Life, and Public Safety to ensure program needs are met.
- Maintain and manage student data systems to support accurate reporting, progress tracking, and assessment.
- Support the implementation of wraparound mentoring initiatives for first-year students, including the Our House Mentoring Program.
- Assist with the design and facilitation of student workshops on topics such as time management, academic success, and campus resource navigation.
- Collaborate with the Director to execute marketing and outreach strategies to recruit students and staff for bridge and mentoring programs.
- Contribute to program evaluation efforts and continuous improvement by collecting feedback and compiling summary reports.
- Help manage the residential components of the summer bridge program, including student check-in/check-out, roommate assignments, and coordination of residential engagement activities.
- Participate in Eagle Achievement Center events and initiatives supporting student development.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for students by fostering an inclusive and supportive campus environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Mentoring and Bridge Programs.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Master's degree in education, counseling, higher education, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in student support services, academic advising, or higher education program coordination.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation and underrepresented populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with data tracking systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
