Salary Range: Up to $70,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Serve as a member of the Department of Housing and Residence Life's leadership team. Responsible for the direction of an assigned functional area within the department, often working with internal and external stakeholders. Functional assignments are flexible and will be re-evaluated as needed. Assist with the development and delivery of a comprehensive year-round residential program that fosters the holistic development of students. Share in the management and supervision of Housing and Residence Life staff. Assist in the delivery of student success, student development, retention initiatives as well as crisis response and student conduct processes. Utilize student success and development theory to guide, maintain and develop new initiatives. Maintain the confidentiality of student information and the accuracy of student success data. Collaborate with various departments and campus stakeholders to implement programs, initiatives and support services.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assists the Associate Director in the supervision, direction and support of Residence Life staff in the oversight, management and coordination of the residential program.
  • Provides leadership for the annual recruitment, selection, and training processes for all assigned staff.
  • Ensures the efficient and effective operation of the residential on-call system to manage after-hours situations impacting residential communities. Ensures the timely and effective communication of information to appropriate offices and personnel.
  • Guides the identification of at-risk residents (academic, emotional, behavioral, wellbeing, etc.) and coordinates referrals to appropriate resources and agencies.
  • Assists in the management of Residence Life budgets.
  • Ensures the effective implementation of residential engagement, belonging, and leadership development initiatives that foster resident growth and development according to university priorities. Provides guidance and support to large-scale programmatic initiatives.
  • Supports the implementation of high-impact practices designed to foster student academic success, development and retention.
  • Supports the department's themed residential community program. Ensure collaboration with Student Success and Academic Affairs to foster the growth, success and strategic expansion of student success initiatives.
  • Participates in residential assessment and continuous improvement initiatives. Work closely with and support departmental staff on projects and assessment efforts.
  • Assists with the oversight of the residential conduct process regarding housing policy violations. Support the effective implementation of student conduct principles, practices and procedures. Serve as a hearing or appeal officer when appropriate or as designated. Ensure the timely completion and closure of cases, along with the accuracy of data and information in the incident management software. Assist with updating the resident handbook and department website to ensure the accuracy of information.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with key stakeholders in support of residential program priorities and outcomes.
  • Assists with the annual departmental goal planning and long-range planning process.
  • Participates in the HRL Leadership On-Call team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience working in housing and residence life or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience with student development, student leadership, or academic success initiatives.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience with student development, student leadership, or academic success initiatives.
  • Experience with supervision.
  • Experience with student conduct systems.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office environment.
  • Late night and weekend work as needed in support of the on-call system for on-campus emergencies and parent calls. Able to respond via phone or in person.
  • Evenings and weekends during move-in, move-out and resident assistant training.

Physical Demands

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
