The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites applications for a Coordinator of Community Standards and Student Leadership in the Residential Life Department. FIT Residential Life houses approximately 2,300 undergraduate students living within 4 residence halls comprising traditional and apartment style housing.
Job Description:
The Coordinator of Community Standards and Student Leadership plays an integral role in supporting the daily operations of the residential student conduct process and student leadership initiatives at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Community Standards and Student Support, the Coordinator provides essential support in managing student conduct, implementing educational programming, and advising student leadership organizations. The Coordinator ensures that residential students are held accountable to community standards and are supported in their development through proactive education, student engagement, and administrative follow-up. Please note, this is a live-off position that does not participate in our on call duty rotation.
Essential Functions:
Conduct & Community Standards Support
- Assist the Assistant Director in managing the conduct database (Symplicity Advocate), including tracking incident reports, monitoring case progress, and ensuring data accuracy.
- Adjudicate low-level/mid-level conduct cases and recommend appropriate educational sanctions, in alignment with sanctioning guidelines.
- Conduct student conduct and record checks for student leaders and coordinate follow-up regarding conduct status.
- Support timely completion of conduct cases, sanction tracking, and critical incident follow-up, working closely with Residential Education Coordinators or Assistant Directors.
- Aid in the development, delivery, and assessment of educational sanctions and preventative conduct programming (e.g., alcohol education, fire safety modules).
- Participate in departmental efforts to implement restorative justice practices and support compliance with institutional and federal policies/reports (FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act).
- Assist with communicating Residential Life policies and protocols to the campus community, student leaders, and relevant campus partners.
- Develop and maintain duty materials and calendar structure for the Resident Assistant on-call schedule.
- Monitor visitation policy violations, maintain an accurate list of banned guests, and assist with visitation holds for unfulfilled conduct sanctions through StarRez and Symplicity Advocate.
- Plan and organize community engagement events, activities and tabling to promote and support department community standards and expectations.
- Ability to participate in professional development opportunities related to conduct (ASCA, NASPA, SUNY Conduct).
Student Leadership and Engagement
- Serve as Advisor to the Residence Hall Association (RHA), attending weekly meetings, and overseeing community council support, advocacy efforts, and development.
- Works with the Assistant Director to facilitate/lead RHA and Community Council training, leadership development, and ongoing advising.
- Collaborate with Student Life to manage RHA's club responsibilities and assist with budget tracking and program implementation. Including management of CampusLabs systems.
- Provide direct support to student leaders through one-on-one mentorship and guidance during meetings and large-scale events. May require after hours commitment.
- Establish and maintain RHA affiliation with NEACURH.
Programmatic & Administrative Support
- Support departmental and institutional efforts in developing and executing preventative and educational programming in coordination with the Assistant Director (e.g., safety education, Campus Anti-Violence Education Group).
- Assist with the planning, communication, and implementation of Health & Safety inspections, RA training, professional staff training, and department-wide in-services.
- Support Residential Life opening/closing procedures, crisis response documentation, and follow-up.
- Represent Residential Life on department and institutional committees, as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Residential Life website to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 1-3 years of full-time experience in residential life, student conduct, student advising or related field.
- 2 years of experience with administration of campus conduct procedures & large scale event planning.
- Experience with RHA and NACURH, and advising student organizations.
- Capacity to work in a 24-hour/7 day environment with the ability to quickly respond to and handle situations for the entire residential campus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in higher education, student development, counseling, social work, or related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Excellent managerial, planning, supervisory, interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills.
- Effective written, verbal and technological communication skills, particularly for investigations and case note record keeping.
- Knowledge in the areas of crisis intervention, conflict mediation, student and leadership development theory, student conduct administration, restorative practices, and safety and security programs.
- Knowledge of common and conduct-specific computer application programs preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, equity, and social justice; experience working with a diverse student population, supporting the needs of marginalized students, and engaging students and staff on issues of diversity and social justice.
- Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act and other state and federal laws as they relate to residential life administration.
- Engagement in the field of student affairs and higher education with an interest and willingness to learn, implement, and share best practices and new approaches.
- Positive attitude and excitement toward work.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and be a strong team member.
- The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to exercise sound judgment. A good sense of humor and a desire to laugh often are highly valued.

Salary
Salary: $70,000 per year
Staff in Residential Life are employees of the FIT Student Housing Corporation, a 501(c)(3) entity. Compensation and benefits are determined through the Housing Corporation governance process and are subject to change as such.
Work Schedule
Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
Evening and weekend commitments will be required to fulfill some of the duties of the position from time to time.
This position is considered to be an essential personnel position for the department, and as such, may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and/or the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The working conditions for this position will be primarily in an office space. The physical requirement for this position will require frequent sitting, occasional standing, occasional bending or twisting, frequent walking, frequent pulling, pushing, reaching, occasional repetitive motions, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
