Assistant Manager of Classification and Compensation
Job Summary
Under general supervision, reporting to the Manager of Classification and Compensation, assist in managing the classification and compensation function including project management of large-scale projects. Provide support with: Position Descriptions and Projects, HR Systems Support and Data Clean-up, Reports, Communication Development, Working with Vendors, Policies, Procedures, SharePoint, Campus Training on Classification and Compensation Topics and Other Duties as Assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong project management skills. Strong analytical and research skills; ability to gather, evaluate, interpret, and consistently apply a wide variety of complex regulations, policies, and procedures to develop well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations.
- Initiative in independently planning, organizing, and performing work assignments within broadly defined parameters.
- Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
- Subject matter knowledge in compensation and classification.
- Excellent computer skills, and proficiency with MS Office suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to create reports or collaborate with others to get needed data.
- Professional demeanor and positive attitude to interact with a multitude of campus constituents and vendors.
- Ability to utilize professional judgment when making decisions.
- Self-starter, work independently as well as part of a team and the ability to take initiative to complete projects.
- Strong ability to organize workload effectively and set priorities including for team.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
- Commitment to adhering to confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to be responsive to requests.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
- Excellent listening skills and the ability to follow directions.
- Ability to draft compensation and classification guidelines, create draft communications to the campus constituents, and provide training on compensation and classification subject matters.
- Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University Infrastructure.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field.
- Experience: Five years of progressively responsible classification and compensation analyst experience plus three years of leadership/managerial experience required. Experience must demonstrate the ability to perform analytical studies and research using basic math and statistical calculations, and preparing reports with excellent written, oral communications, and interviewing skills. Advanced skills in Excel are required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience: Work experience in higher education in a Human Resources Office. Experience using project management software and creating workflows.
