Assistant or Associate Professor, Hematology Oncology, Medical and Cancer Genetics
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member specializing in medical genetics research and clinical care for oncology patients. This position will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch and the appropriate department or division at UW, based upon board certification(s) of successful applicant.
The position will involve participation in the clinical and instructional activities of the Clinical Research Division, the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Cancer Genetics and Prevention Clinic, and other Divisions, as applicable. Fred Hutch and UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The selected candidate will participate in ongoing clinical and laboratory research programs related to cancer genetics and precision prevention. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity and resources to develop their own clinical research programs. Teaching responsibilities will involve oversight of advanced practice providers and fellows during inpatient and outpatient rotations, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.
The successful candidate will be appointed on the Clinician Scholar track and will have protected time for research, teaching, and mentorship. This position will be expected to serve on the cancer genetics clinical service, which includes multidisciplinary risk assessment and cancer risk reduction for complex and high-risk individuals.
The primary appointment will be in the Clinical Research Division of Fred Hutch with a joint appointment at University of Washington in the appropriate division. University of Washington assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and associate professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The position will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and the Department Chair/Division Head of the appropriate UW Department/Division, according to applicant’s board certification.
Applicants must have: MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent); Board eligible or certified (or foreign equivalent) in Medical Genetics, Medical Oncology or Hematology with experience in cancer genetics, or Other relevant clinical field with experience in cancer genetics; Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record in clinical research involving cancer genetics.
