Assistant or Associate Professor U.S. Naval History in the Pacific World

The Department of History at The University of Texas at Austin, in collaboration with the Clements Center for National Security, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor who studies U.S. naval and maritime history in the Pacific Ocean and Pacific Rim in the 19th and 20th centuries. The position will begin in the fall of academic year 2026-2027. Duties will include research and publication as well as undergraduate and graduate teaching. The selected candidate will have substantial administrative and service duties with the Clements Center, including direct supervision of a small staff and an array of student programs, a study-abroad program, and public events.

Qualifications

To be considered for a tenure-track position, applicants must have completed all the requirements for the Ph.D. by time of appointment, or they must expect to obtain the Ph.D. within a year of joining the faculty as Instructor. Tenured applicants must hold a Ph.D. Preferred qualifications include a strong record of research and teaching, training in and the ability to teach the intellectual history of geopolitics, an interest in, and record of, active exchange between scholarly work and the formulation of contemporary U.S. foreign policy, and research expertise in languages, archives, and historiographies of Pacific Rim countries.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability.
