The Department of Chicana/o/x Studies at the University of California, Davis invites applicants with a PhD or equivalent MFA terminal degree in Chicanx Studies, Ethnic Studies, or an allied field to apply for an Assistant Professor of Teaching position specializing in the field of Chicana/o/x Studies. A reasonable estimated salary range for this position is $98,600 - $122,100 inclusive of the salary scale and off-scale salary components
Position and Qualifications
We seek someone broadly trained in, or whose artistic practice contributes to the field of Chicana/o/x studies with outstanding teaching experience in higher education. The candidate must be able to teach a wide range of courses that include “Introduction to Chicana/o/x Studies” (a course examining the past and current conditions of Chicana/o/x communities), or “Chicana, Chicano, Chicanx Culture” (an interdisciplinary survey of Chicana/o/x cultural representation in the 20th century) paired with courses of interest ranging from Chicana/o/x cultural production, social movements, history, feminist theory, education, health, to methods.
The Assistant Professor of Teaching position is a full-time Academic Senate faculty position with potential for security of employment akin to tenure. The successful candidate will have a record of high-quality teaching evaluations and a commitment to the growing field of Chicana/o/x and Latinx Studies. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate the potential to serve and mentor our exceptional and diverse student population. The teaching load is six courses per year, which will offer our majors and minors access to critical courses, address gaps in our curriculum, and ensure continuity in core course offerings. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate teaching excellence, scholarly or creative activity, and willingness to engage in University and public service.
The Chicana/o/x Studies Department is a vibrant community of scholars whose work is inter/transdisciplinary and intersectional, and committed to fostering a collegial and equitable student-centered pedagogy and multidisciplinary teaching community. The Department of Chicana/o/x Studies offers a large, successful undergraduate major and minor program and oversees the Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer (TANA) in Woodland, California; the Oaxaca Latinx Health Internship program, Knights Landing One Health Clinic; and the Davis Bridge program. UC Davis is located west of Sacramento and north of the San Francisco Bay Area.

- One recent and representative writing sample or a short creative portfolio.
