Assistant Professor - Clinical Track, Research-Focused, Department of Occupational Therapy

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor - Clinical Track, Research-Focused, Department of Occupational Therapy at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

  • Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTRL) with eligibility for licensure in the State of Michigan required.
  • Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field.
  • Teaching experience in higher education, including course delivery, curriculum development, laboratory instruction, or clinical precepting.
  • Demonstrated potential to contribute to scholarly or research activities within a clinical track role.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within an academic team.

Unique duties:

The successful candidate will: Help fill identified curricular gaps. Courses may include, but are not limited to: Aging, Introduction to Occupational Therapy, Mental Health, Anatomy, clinical assessment and other areas of expertise aligned with program needs. Collaborate with faculty and community partners to create innovative learning experiences grounded in occupational therapy theory and practice. Contribute to building and sustaining a research culture within the OT program, with potential access to mentorship, interdisciplinary collaborations, and seed funding opportunities. Support ongoing accreditation, program evaluation, and curricular refinement efforts. Promote inclusive pedagogy and contribute to a learning environment that supports diverse learners and communities.

Qualifications:

  • Teach graduate-level courses as a generalist, with the ability to cover a broad range of content areas based on programmatic need.
  • Contribute to course design, delivery, assessment, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with ACOTE standards.
  • Demonstrate and advance a developing research agenda, with potential opportunities for financial support available.
  • Engage in scholarly productivity appropriate to the clinical track including presentations, publications, applied research, grant-supported initiatives, and/or community-engaged scholarship.
  • Provide academic advisement and mentorship to OT students throughout the program.
  • Provide capstone mentorship for OTD students.
  • Participate in admissions processes including interviews, applicant review, and recruitment events.
  • Serve on program, department, college, and university committees as appropriate.
  • Contribute to community-engaged initiatives and professional service activities that advance the mission of the program and university.
  • Attend and contribute actively to program and departmental meetings on a regular basis.

Preferred qualifications:

Evidence of scholarly productivity or a clearly defined emerging research agenda. Experience teaching in one or more of the following areas: Aging, Mental Health, Intro to OT, Anatomy, and clinical assessment. Clinical experience across multiple practice settings or as a generalist of OT. Experience with community-engaged research or interprofessional education.
