Job Summary

Teach various Construction Management courses which will lead students to acquire specific skills, certificates, Associate of Applied Science (AAS), or Associate of Science (AS) degree(s). This position may also entail teaching other courses related to the construction industry as needed. All full-time faculty teach assigned classes established by the SLCC Full Time Faculty Handbook for Compensation and Workload and the Academic Freedom, Professional Responsibility and Tenure Policy in a manner that reflects the mission and values of Salt Lake Community College. Tenure-track faculty participate in teaching, professional activities, and college service. All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences. Faculty are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  1. Provide classroom and lab instruction for assigned Construction Management courses. Assess and maintain records of student performance on Canvas as per SLCC policy and submit student records and documentation on time. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments. Promotes development of critical thinking among students.
  2. Advise students on the program requirements and their progress through the program. Provide an industry viewpoint to students so students will be prepared to enter the workforce. Maintains and posts teaching schedule. Maintains significant campus presence to respond to instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college and community. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
  3. Engage in professional development activities to remain current and improve knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the construction profession. Expands knowledge in discipline and teaching craft on an ongoing basis Participates in collegial mentoring relationship, serving as mentor and/or mentee in the department and college. Serves community partners as content area experts when needed. Completes required training and participates in professional development.
  4. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in committee assignments. Provides service to the institution through appropriate participation in academic and campus committee assignments; offers adequate service on at least one department, school, or college-wide committee Attends Convocation, Professional Development Day, Commencement and other institutional meetings (e.g. department meetings).
  5. Follow all established SLCC, School of Applied Technology and Technical Specialties policies and procedures. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines and other pertinent federal regulations.
  6. Make and maintain industry contact and work with Program Advisory Committee (EPAC) to assess needs of industry. Collaborate with EPAC members and other instructors to update and revise curriculum to meet industry needs. Promotes, models and exhibits the College Values with colleagues, students and community stakeholders

Professional Activity & Service Expectations

  1. Remain current in the discipline and maintain required credentials.
  2. Participate in professional development and mentorship.
  3. Serve on committees and contribute to advising, recruitment, and retention.
  4. Mentor adjunct faculty and support department needs.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  2. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities

Minimum qualifications

Must have a minimum of six (6) full-time years of paid construction work experience as a licensed General Contractor,
OR
Six (6) full-time years of paid construction related supervisory experience and Associate of Applied Science/ Associates of Science in a construction related area
OR
Four (4) years of full-time construction related supervisory experience and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a construction related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience, Certifications as related to specific classes being taught, training; in Construction Management.
    Example Certifications include, but not limited to:
    LEED
    * National Association of Home Builders Certified Green Professional
    OSHA
    NCCER Instructor Credential
  2. Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in Construction Management or related field.
  3. Experience in estimating construction projects.
  4. Supervisory field management experience in custom homes or equivalent experience on commercial construction projects.
  5. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management

Placement within the range is based on a review of the candidate's education and credentials, discipline-specific experience, teaching effectiveness and competencies, and internal equity across rank and department. SLCC's faculty compensation practices align with institutional policy and support equitable, consistent placement within approved ranges.
The base salary is a 9-month Academic Year appointment and paid over annual basis. Additional compensation may be available when teaching overload classes. Summer Semester is paid at 23.5% of base for a full teaching load.
