Assistant Professor in Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law
Job Summary: The position involves teaching criminal law courses in the Bachelor and Master programs in Law, and conducting research on criminal law themes within the research program 'Empirie en Norm bij Delinquent Gedrag en Strafrechtelijke Handhaving'. It is a 0.8-1.0 FTE role at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Responsibilities: Coordinate, prepare, and deliver teaching in the Bachelor and Master programs in Law with a focus on criminal law; create and assess exams and other assessments; supervise and evaluate Bachelor and/or Master theses; develop and strengthen an independent research line in collaboration with colleagues; publish scientific articles and professional publications; collaborate in academic and professional networks; perform valorization activities for impact on legal practice, such as giving lectures, participating in advisory committees, and conducting contract research; undertake administrative or organizational tasks within the department and faculty.
Qualifications and Requirements: A nearly completed or completed PhD thesis on a criminal law topic; passion for Dutch criminal and criminal procedure law with ambition to develop further; experience in setting up and conducting scientific research in criminal law, with experience or affinity for empirical research preferred; experience in providing academic education and willingness to develop further; willingness to take on administrative and organizational roles and develop in these areas; intrinsic motivation to contribute as a team player to cohesion and collegiality; possession of a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or willingness to obtain one; good command of Dutch and English in speech and writing.
What the Employer Offers: A fixed-term contract of 18 months with the possibility of a permanent contract upon proven good performance; salary ranging from €4,537 to €6,209 gross per month based on full-time employment; at least 0.8 FTE position; additional benefits including 232 vacation hours per year for a full-time 38-hour workweek (or 96 extra hours if working 40 hours), 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, contribution to commuting costs, options for fiscal exchange of employment conditions, and partially paid parental leave.
