Job Details
The Department of Biological Sciences at Moravian University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology starting fall semester of 2026. This faculty member will engage in teaching, research, and service at the university.
We welcome applicants from all biology subfields, though we are particularly interested in building our teaching and research capacity in areas such as Entomology, Mycology, Cellular/Molecular/Developmental Biology, Genetics, and Virology. Alignment with departmental objectives (https://www.moravian.edu/biology) and potential to provide impactful undergraduate instruction, mentorship, and research experiences matters more than a specific area of expertise.
This position includes a 3-3 teaching load (lecture + lab = 1.5 courses; lecture-only = 1 course). The successful candidate will be expected to teach upper-level courses in their area of expertise, while also potentially contributing to large departmental courses like Foundations of Biology (100-level), Genetics (200-level), or Microbiology (200-level), depending on their experience and strengths. Additional teaching may include upper-level seminars in the candidate's area of expertise and general education courses, depending on departmental needs and candidate interests. We welcome applicants from any biological field who can demonstrate the ability and motivation to complement our existing offerings (https://www.moravian.edu/biology/program/courses) and advance our teaching and research goals.
Moravian University is a primarily undergraduate institution and our top priority is teaching; the Department of Biological Sciences values active, student-centered approaches to learning as well as inquiry-based labs that teach authentic skills. Our department supports Moravian’s large population of Biology, Nursing, and Health Science majors, as well as smaller majors (Biochemistry, Neuroscience, and Environmental Science). Strong teaching statements should include concrete examples supporting the candidate's teaching philosophy.
The successful candidate is expected to establish an active research program involving undergraduate student collaborators. Regardless of their biology subfield, the candidate should highlight how they envision conducting research with the facilities, resources, and student body of a regional undergraduate institution.
Lastly, the candidate will engage in both departmental and university service including but not limited to academic advising and serving on various institutional committees.
