Assistant Professor of Instruction in Mathematics, Specializing in Math Education (Non Tenure Track)
Job Description
The Department of Mathematics at Ohio University invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor of Instruction in Mathematics with a specialization in Math Education beginning in Fall 2026. This position is renewable annually depending upon available funding, performance, and continuing departmental need.
80% of effort will be in teaching, with focus on:
- Teaching mathematics content courses for prospective teachers seeking certification in at least two of the following grade bands: PK-5, 4-8, 7-12 and PK-8. - Coordinating the content courses for prospective teachers who will be certified in PK-8 grade bands. This includes coordinating multiple class sections that can span our regional campuses and supervising graduate teaching assistant instructors.
20% of effort will be in service to the department, college, university, and broader profession with a focus on supporting teacher preparation efforts in collaboration with the College of Education, to include accreditation efforts, curricular revision, and outreach.
The department has a broad mission, from teaching general education classes through mentoring doctoral students and conducting research. We have a long history of supporting faculty members in mathematics education and involvement with the mathematics education PhD program housed in the College of Education. Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Math Education or a closely related area by start date.
- Completed minimum 18 hours of graduate level mathematics course work by start date.
- Experience teaching mathematics content courses for prospective teachers or experience mentoring in-service teachers in mathematics content.
- Experience with learning standards for K-12 mathematics and standards for the preparation of K-12 mathematics teachers.
- Demonstrated interest in the mathematical preparation of teachers.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Mathematics Education.
- Active participation in professional organizations.
- Experience teaching in K-12 school settings.
- Research experience in mathematics education.
- Experience with curriculum development or leading professional development.
