Assistant Professor of Religious Studies (Tenure-track)

The Department of Religious Studies at DePauw University
invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. Ph.D. (completed by
August 2026) in Buddhism; Ph.D. preferred, ABD candidates will be
considered at the rank of Instructor. A commitment to teaching
undergraduates in a liberal-arts setting and evidence of effective
and inclusive teaching are essential. The Religious Studies
department specifically seeks candidates to teach Buddhism with a
speciality in East Asian, Chinese, and Japanese Buddhism. Teaching
assignment is six courses per year, and funding is available for
professional development and research with undergraduate students.
The position requires teaching introductory and upper level courses
in Buddhism, and the introductory course in religion. Since courses
in Buddhism are crosslisted with DePauw’s Asian Studies Program,
the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the
Asian Studies Program.
