Position Description
The School of Film, Media & Theatre at Georgia State University seeks an emerging practitioner with creative writing, directing, and/or producing experience in serial television for streaming and digital platforms to enhance students’ experiential engagement with contemporary media. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining an active creative agenda, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in film and media, mentoring graduate students, and participating in service at the department, college, and/or university levels.
Teaching
- Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Teach existing core courses such as “Producing for TV and Film,” “Serial Television Production,” “Writing the Series,” and “Studio Television Production”
- Develop and teach new courses in areas of expertise that might include, but are not limited to: New Media Production, Media Industries, Interactive Media Theory and Production, Mobile Media Production, Webcasting and streaming technologies
- Integrate current industry practices and technologies into curriculum
- Mentor students in creative development and professional preparation
Research
- Maintain an active creative portfolio with a focus on narratively driven serial media
- Present work at professional conferences and festivals
- Produce professional media content
- Seek external funding opportunities where appropriate
Service
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university committees
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local and regional media production studios and organizations
- Participate in curriculum development and assessment
- Advise students on academic and career matters
- Support departmental recruitment and retention initiatives
Required Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience in teaching at the university level
Required Education: M.F.A in film and media production or a related field
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- MFA in Film/Television Production, Media Production, Screenwriting, or related field (or equivalent professional experience) by appointment start date
- Strong creative portfolio showcasing the creative development, writing, direction, and/or production of narratively driven serial content for television, streaming platforms, or digital media
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness or potential at undergraduate and graduate levels
- Experience in teaching writing, directing, and/or producing serial media and digital content at the university level
- An emerging record of mentoring students and/or colleagues
- An emerging record of administrative and/or service responsibilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines
Salary: $75,000
