Job Summary

The Georgia College & State University School of Nursing is recruiting for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a 12 month academic appointment with a summer teaching requirement.

The selected candidate will support the academic environment and the educational mission of the University, the College of Health Sciences, and the School of Nursing through student instruction and support at graduate and undergraduate levels, research and professional development, and service to the institution and the community.

The ideal faculty employee will demonstrate:
- a basic understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning.
- strong communication skills and successful higher education teaching experience.
- a developing research agenda.
- the ability to work collegially and effectively with individuals of various backgrounds and majors at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

The position will reside in the Department and supports the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.

Responsibilities

Teaching/Instructing - 50
All Georgia College School of Nursing faculty share the responsibility of teaching undergraduate and graduate students as their knowledge, experience, and expertise dictate.

Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- a full-time instructional load (12-15 hours per semester) teaching in areas of expertise within the academic discipline.
- course development and oversight.
- regular office hours course meetings, and instruction
- student mentoring
- other teaching responsibilities

In addition to teaching in their discipline, faculty employees may contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses.

To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.

Research and Professional Development - 20
Tenure Track faculty are expected to conduct research and to develop within the profession of nursing and nursing education.

Expectations may include but are not limited to the following:
- Participation in professional development activities on an on-going basis.
- Completing continuing education as it relates to the areas of clinical practice and teaching.
- Submitting articles for publication in peer reviewed journals
- Presentation at professional meetings
- Application for internal and external grants
- Membership and participation in professional organizations
- Other activities that contribute to research and professional development as indicated.

Service - 20
Service to Institution, the Profession, and the Public are expectations of the Tenure Track faculty member.

All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college, and university mission by providing service to the institution. Service may be at the department, college, university, community and disciplinary level. Service opportunities may include but are not limited to:
- service on committees, task forces, and other college-improvement activities at the school, college and university level.
- mentoring faculty peers or student organizations
- program coordination
- provide continuing education service, instruction, or program development for department, school, college, or university
- involvement in professional organizations as a committee member, leader, task force member etc.

Public Service might include activities such as the following:
- consulting work
- membership and participation in community organizations
- other significant services to the community

Other duties and responsibilities - 10

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A terminal degree in nursing or a related discipline (PhD, DNP) is expected.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org)

Required Experience
Unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the United States with the ability to obtain a license in the state of Georgia upon appointment.

APRN Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a license to practice in the state of GA or the ability to obtain a license in the state of GA upon appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
PhD in Nursing is preferred

Preferred Experience
-Teaching experience in both undergraduate and graduate programs
-Evidence of scholarly and/or research dissemination
-an understanding of Georgia College's mission
-enthusiasm about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.
-Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is preferred.
