"Assistant Research Scientist"

The Department of Computer Science at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire an Assistant Research Scientist to work with Prof. Pavel Izmailov.

The CSE department conducts ongoing research programs in a wide range of areas related to computer science theory, cyber security, analysis, visualization data, computer games, and internet & web research.

Expectations

Candidates will be responsible for research on reinforcement learning algorithms for large language models. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in machine learning, reinforcement learning and language models as exemplified by a strong publication record. Previous experience on alignment and scalable oversight is desired.

Salary range

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $48,456 for full time, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.

Expected start date and period of employment

Expected start date is February 1st 2026. This position is expected to be for 3 months.

Candidates should have at least a BS in computer science or a related field. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
