The School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs is home to a Ph.D. in Public Policy and nine master's and joint degree programs, including a NASPAA accredited Master of Public Administration program. Our programs are offered in Boston, MA; Arlington, VA; and Oakland, CA. This position is based in Boston.
The School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs seeks to fill a non-tenure-track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor.
This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year.
This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. The appointment will be on Northeastern's Boston campus.
Responsibilities:
Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses per semester) in ecological economics, environmental, energy, and climate policy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape course offerings that address critical challenges at the intersection of environmental sustainability, economic systems, and climate resilience, preparing students to become leaders in the rapidly evolving fields of environmental and climate policy.
Student advising, professional development and service are also expected.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, Environmental Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics or a related field in hand by the employment start date is required.
- Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience. Candidates seeking appointment at the Full Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Full Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.

The teaching statement should summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, and what you would like to teach at Northeastern. Please highlight any pedagogical innovations, experiential learning activities, or strategies for teaching a global student population.

Pay Range:
Assistant Teaching Professor: $76,000.00 - $94,000.00 | Associate Teaching Professor: $84,000.00 - $95,000.00 | Teaching Professor: $93,000.00 - $105,000.00
With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
