DESCRIPTION
Montclair State University, Department of Biology, offers an exciting opportunity for a full-time non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor of Biology starting August 2026. The Department of Biology offers a dynamic and inclusive academic environment dedicated to fostering innovation, creativity, and excellence in undergraduate education.
We seek a dedicated educator who will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and excellence in teaching at the University level.
The successful candidate will bring experience teaching, managing, and coordinating multi-section foundational and intermediate-level courses and labs in biological statistics and research methodology, R, and Python, while also supporting curriculum development that integrates modern tools such as AI and VR. This position requires teaching courses across multiple modalities to meet the diverse needs of our students. While primarily a position in teaching, the successful candidate will also take a leadership role in coordinating and standardizing multi-section courses and labs to maintain consistency and quality across the curriculum. The faculty member will provide essential support to students conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing for advanced study or STEM careers where data literacy is essential.
In addition, the successful candidate will actively engage in professional development, curriculum innovation, interdisciplinary program development, and mentor students.
The position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment, with eligibility for

THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY
The Department of Biology at Montclair State University is a leader in authentic, research-driven learning experiences, providing students with hands-on opportunities to explore biological sciences from molecular biology to ecosystems biology. Innovative initiatives include the SEA-PHAGES program, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute-supported project that enables students to conduct authentic research on soil-borne viruses from their first year. Students benefit from field-based learning opportunities that extend from the local environment of New Jersey to locations as far as the Galapagos. Cutting-edge laboratory courses integrate the latest technologies, allowing students to address real-world biological questions.
The department is actively developing interdisciplinary degree programs, including a new BA in Biology and collaborations in Neuroscience and Biotechnology to ensure that our graduates develop a deep understanding of biological systems and current scientific methods, and adopt a critical-thinking mindset that will prepare them for diverse career pathways.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Ph.D. in Biology, Biostatistics or a relevant field is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is required, as evidenced by peer/student evaluations and/or other materials, particularly in Biostatistics and introductory-level biology courses.

Salary Range
$82,998.75-$92,581.50 Annually
