The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

Job Profile Summary

Supports accessibility audits and user experience testing of student-facing content to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA standards. This includes both internally and externally developed course and assessment materials. The role is responsible for organizing evaluation results into clear, actionable reports for communication with WGU stakeholders and vendors. Additional responsibilities include managing captioning and transcript requests for media assets used in courses. Collaboration with team members in both in-person and virtual settings is essential.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists with accessibility assessments of websites, documents, and multimedia content.
  • Collects, analyzes, and documents data related to accessibility issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Contributes to the preparation of detailed reports on accessibility evaluations for stakeholders and vendors.
  • Collaborates with higher-level accessibility analysts to perform audits and recommend improvements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of accessibility guidelines, including WCAG 2.2 AA, and participate in relevant training.
  • Communicates accessibility evaluation results effectively to WGU stakeholders and vendors.
  • Partners with various departments to support remediation of identified accessibility issues.
  • Tests and evaluates accessibility tools and solutions.
  • Manages captioning and transcript requests for media assets in courses and assessments.
  • Provides one-on-one accessibility coaching and Q&A support to staff.
  • Reviews course and assessment content to identify and implement accessibility improvements.
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of accessibility training materials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of WCAG 2.2 AA standards and web accessibility guidelines
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, magnification software)
  • Passion for improving access to higher education for people with disabilities
  • Ability to read and interpret HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in collecting and analyzing data to identify process improvements
  • Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues in simple terms
  • Effective collaboration skills with cross-functional teams
  • Self-motivated and capable of conducting independent research
  • Ability to contribute to team projects under the direction of senior staff
  • Ability to study and understand complex technical documentation (e.g., WCAG 2.2 AA, Section 508)
  • Accountability for decisions impacting individual students
  • Ability to support student learning through accessible course experiences
  • Basic problem-solving skills related to accessibility issues, with guidance
  • Ability to follow established university and departmental policies and best practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and team members
  • Willingness to provide feedback and support within area of specialty
  • Contributes positively as a team member and supports departmental initiatives

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Technology, Accessibility, Human-Computer Interaction) or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a related field (e.g., accessibility, instructional design, user experience, or web development).
  • Demonstrated progress toward Trusted Tester certification or similar accessibility credential
  • Basic knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508

Experience in lieu of education

Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.

Position & Application Details
