Annual rate: $72,000 - $74,000

General Statement: The Associate Director of the Cross-Cultural Centers (CCC) will assist in the daily administration and supervision of the department and its four resource centers – Asian Pacific Islander Student Resource Center, Chicana/o Latina/o Student Resource Center, Pan African Student Resource Center, and Gender and Sexuality Resource Center. The Associate Director supports the CCC with student retention and persistence initiatives. This position is responsible for the implementation, evaluation, and assessment of CCC programs, events, resources, and services; leadership development for CCC staff and affiliated student organizations; and integration of academic success and identity initiatives. The Associate Director will also have direct responsibility for coordinating Indigenous/American Indian programming on campus. The Associate Director is a member of the University-Student Union (U-SU) Leadership Team and helps support the U-SU Board of Directors. The position will serve on and lead U-SU and campus committees, including the CCC Advisory Board, and will participate in other special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social services, communications, public administration, or related field required.
  • Four years full-time experience in a position supporting students (college/university setting preferred).
  • Two years of direct student staff supervision required.
  • Cultural competency and awareness of the concerns, pressures, and inequities facing women, people of color, undocumented communities, queer and gender-fluid communities, and other minoritized groups are required.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development, identity development, social justice, intersectionality, inclusion, and equity required.
  • Well-versed in current issues and practice related to ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, citizenship status, socioeconomic status, and other significant aspects of identity required.
  • Creativity, problem-solving skills, and strong organizational abilities required.
  • Experience with budgeting, fiscal management, and reporting required.
  • Experience in planning small- and large-scale events required.
  • Oral and written communication skills are required.
  • The ability to motivate and work closely with students is required.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to utilize current technology related to programmatic and business functions required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in higher education and Student Affairs, Ethnic Studies, or Women/Gender Studies, or a related field preferred.
  • Direct experience working in a cultural or identity-based resource center preferred.
  • Knowledge of key issues and meaningful experience working with Indigenous/American Indian populations.
  • Professional staff supervision experience preferred.
  • Contract management/negotiation experience preferred.
  • Experience in training, development, and dialogue facilitation preferred.
  • Knowledge of assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes preferred.

Essential Duties:

  • Participates on the University-Student Union (U-SU) leadership team and on U-SU and Division of Student Affairs projects and committees as assigned.
  • Monitors policy and procedures for programming staff to meet U-SU and University standards.
  • Supervises, recruits, trains, and evaluates four professional program coordinators and student assistants.
  • Creates budgets and monitors expenditures for CCC units with the Director and the Executive Director of the U-SU.
  • Manages CCC front desk operations.
  • Develops and implements major initiatives, including the Cultural Graduation Ceremonies.
  • Using an intersectional lens, oversees the collaborative and campus-wide planning and implementation of a wide variety of educational, social, wellness, and cultural programs.
  • Initiates and coordinates CCC collaborations with academic and student affairs departments on campus.
  • Assists with the evaluation and assessment of leadership, involvement, and programming efforts.
  • Attends events during daytime, evening, and weekend hours, as needed, to ensure appropriate coordination and implementation of planning efforts.
  • Develops and maintains contacts and resources; serves as a liaison with other campus programmers and involvement areas (e.g., Associated Students, Inc., Center for Student Involvement, Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, Student Health Center/Counseling and Psychological Services, Admissions and Recruitment, New Student and Family Engagement, and Housing and Residential Life).
  • Assists in the preparation of handbooks, reports, brochures, and administrative and procedure manuals for the program unit as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
