Description:
The Associate Director of Internships manages a centralized, campus-wide internship program that provides experiential learning, career exploration, professional work experience, and networking opportunities for students. The Associate Director works closely with students, faculty, and internship sites, and collaborates with the ICD team in creating and delivering high-quality career-related programs and services that are in alignment with other campus partner programs.
Your Key Responsibilities:

- Promote the value of internships as it relates to career development to students, staff and faculty through class presentations, informational materials and campus events.
- Develop and maintain a network of diverse and high-quality internship sites and cultivate relationships in collaboration with the Senior Executive Director and Employer Relations Specialist with those sites and key contacts.
- Conduct one-on-one consultations with students to assist with career development, internships, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Coordinate the assessment & evaluation processes for internship experiences and the awarding of academic credit.
- Track funding of internships through institutional, endowed and external accounts and execute required reporting.
- Provide centralized program support to students, faculty and internship sites.
- Supervise support staff.
- Conduct regular and comprehensive assessment and analysis of the overall effectiveness and processes of the Internships program to ensure continuous improvement in collaboration with the ICD team.
- In support of Berea College’s great commitments, this position may require student supervision. The fourth great commitment is to promote learning and serving in community through the student labor program, honoring the dignity and utility of all work, mental and manual, and taking pride in work well done. The Supervision would include scheduling, assigning and approving work performed. Developing students about common workplace acumen and giving them tangible work experience is an expected outcome. Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty and students.
What You'll Bring:
Education required to ensure success in this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resource Management, Organizational Psychology; or related field
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
- 5 years’ experience in higher education working with internships, career services, and/or experiential education
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Excellent communication, including written, and in-person skills; ability to develop/maintain effective relationships with diverse populations (including but not limited to students, alumni, faculty, administration, and staff)
- Knowledge of career development cycle and best practices for internship programs;
- Strong communication and presentation skills;
- Excellent counseling/consulting/coaching skills, administrative/management expertise;
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships
License, certification, or registration necessary:
- Certified Professional Career Coach required or similar: CliftonStrengths, NACE, MBTI
- Required Background checks
- Valid Driver’s License
Physical requirements:
- Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to travel for Programmatic events, both locally and nationally
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20#
Environmental conditions:
- Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors, students, staff and faculty
- Fast-paced environment
- Occasional travel required for meetings, conferences, etc.
- Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends, as needed
Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:
- Ability to drive college cars and vans
