Job Description Summary: The Center for Civics, Culture, and Society at Miami University is conducting a nationwide search for its inaugural faculty. The Center seeks to fill tenured faculty positions at the rank of Associate Professor, to start in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Faculty are expected to teach courses in the Center’s new curriculum of Civic Thought. The appointment will begin in August 2026.

Job Description: In 2023, the State of Ohio established and funded the Center for Civics, Culture, and Society at Miami University. The Center will grow over time under the leadership of its Executive Director who will define the Center’s vision, appoint the scholars necessary to fulfill the Center’s statutory mission to “conduct teaching and research in the historical ideas, traditions, and texts that have shaped the American constitutional order and society” (ORC 3339.06). The Center is a multidisciplinary university center that will conduct teaching, research, and public programming concerning the core texts and great debates of Western civilization; the principles, ideals, and institutions of the United States; and the foundations of responsible leadership and informed citizenship. It is an independent academic unit of the University.
Successful candidates will be accomplished teachers and scholars in disciplines related to civic thought (including but not limited to political science, history, and philosophy). The Center’s faculty will be public-spirited scholars who are committed to civic education and to public-facing scholarship. Successful candidates will have a record of publishing, teaching, and service that is sufficient to obtain tenure. Faculty should be eager to develop and sustain a vibrant community of teacher/scholars through mentorship, participation in public programming, and service to the Center and to Miami University. New faculty should be familiar with and embrace the Center’s mission as defined by ORC 3339.06.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required: Doctorate in a discipline related to civic thought (including but not limited to political science, history, or philosophy).
