Athletic Communications Assistant - Internship Opportunity
The Orange County Community College (SUNY Orange) Department of Athletics and Office of Communications is seeking candidates for an athletic communications assistant to fulfill a 10-month commitment beginning in August/September of 2025. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and the long-term goal of working in the athletic communications profession. This professional learning opportunity will position an individual to assist with sports coverage, feature writing, social media content creation, event management, game operations and other office duties. This is a limited term appointment.
The responsibilities of the athletic communications assistant will include:
- Serving as contact for the College's nine NJCAA-sponsored sports
- Writing press releases and feature stories for the College's athletic website
- Maintaining and updating the athletic website
- Co-managing (with coaches) social media accounts and creating content (photography, videography, and graphics) for social media accounts
- Serving as a liaison with media
- Travelling with teams as needed
- Compiling game statistics, inputting computer statistics and maintaining sport-by-sport archives
- Providing information to the NJCAA, Region XV and Mid-Hudson Conference
- Staffing home athletic events and assisting with event management and game operations
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Education Required: Bachelor's degree
Experience Required: Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to multitask.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Ability to manage a schedule that includes nights/weekends
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
- Previous media relations or sports information experience at a college or professional level
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, as well as Canva.
- Basic experience with in-game statistical programs, including Game Changer (or others)
Additional Information:
Deadline for Applying: Position will remain open until successful candidate has been identified.
Position begins Fall semester 2025 (late August)
Compensation: Compensation for this internship is $20,000 ($2,000 per month). This internship does not include any fringe benefits such as housing or health insurance.
Duration: 10 months (the College could extend the internship for up to, but not longer than, two additional months, with compensation)
