Position Information:

The Athletic Trainer position oversees the healthcare management of assigned sports, and serves as the primary point of contact between sports medicine, coaching staff, and student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer collaborates closely with team physicians, strength and conditioning staff, dietitians, and mental health professionals to develop individualized performance and injury prevention programs that optimize student-athlete health and performance. This position is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses while ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional health and safety standards. The Athletic Trainer also plays a critical role in enhancing the student-athlete experience by fostering a culture of health, safety, and performance excellence while contributing to the advancement of sports medicine services at the institution.

The full salary range for the Athletic Trainer is $68,500 - $121,900 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area. Required
  • Master's degree in related field. Preferred

Experience Requirements

  • 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required

Certification Requirements

  • Professional certification. Required
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Required

Minimum Requirements

  • Computer skills in programs relevant to job duties.
  • Thorough skills associated with athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques, as well as of first-aid, athletic equipment, and injury assessment and treatment.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters involving athletic injuries and treatments.
  • Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
  • For positions associated with Sports Medicine, must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times, avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
  • Strong ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with others, including athletes, team physicians, faculty, staff and others in the athletic department.
  • Strong skills necessary to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize work assignments and complete assignments within required timelines.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.
  • Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
  • Knowledge of procurement function and campus budget requirements relating to athletic equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies professional concepts to provide the full range of prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by means of protective and therapeutic wrappings and use of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques. 10%
  • Provides intercollegiate and sports club athletes with complex, advanced injury prevention training, and evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. 10%
  • Administers first-aid to athletes. Provides advanced manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine. 5%
  • May maintain athletic training facilities and equipment, ensuring all athletic equipment is fully operational and athletic training rooms are maintained according to standards. 5%
  • Enforces safety procedures. 5%
  • Comply with NCAA, Big West Conference, University and Department rules and regulations. 5%
  • Operate within an atmosphere of compliance, integrity, and within the scope and intent of NCAA, conference, and university regulations. 5%
  • Provide a referral system for counseling and guidance services to all student-athletes for medical and non-medical problems. 5%
