Athletics Academic Advisor/Learning Specialist

The Athletics Academic Advisor/Learning Specialist will provide academic guidance to prospective and enrolled student-athletes to ensure that they receive the academic advising and support needed to succeed academically and meet University and NCAA academic eligibility requirements.
Responsibilities for the Athletics Academic Advisor/Learning Specialist include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides effective academic advising and up-to-date campus information to selected sports; conducts individual advising appointments with student-athletes who have concerns about their major choices, progress toward degree, grades, or any other aspects that may impede their success toward graduation and NCAA eligibility and Academic Progress Rate (APR) requirements
- Provides effective academic support as a learning specialist for those selected "at-risk" student-athletes, as assigned
- Maintains appropriate documentation and academic records to verify compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations; possesses knowledge of NCAA rules, graduation requirements, and general academic regulations
- Serves as co-coordinator of Books and Materials program with the Assistant Director of Academic Achievement
- Assists with Guest Coach, Career Development, Mentor, and Faculty Fellows programs
The work hours for this position include occasional nights and weekends.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Two years of academic advising experience
- Knowledge of academic and graduation requirements, NCAA progress towards degree requirements, and other NCAA rules and regulations
- Excellent organizational and degree planning skills
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability to assess and create study skill development for at-risk student-athletes
- Ability to collaborate across campus
Preferred Qualification:
- Master's degree
