Position Summary:
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is looking for a highly organized, tech-savvy professional to join our team as an Audio/Visual (A/V) and Virtual Events Specialist. In this role, youll take the lead on managing AV operations in our auditorium, coordinating event setups, handling equipment installations, and performing preventative maintenance to keep everything running smoothly.
Youll play a key part in delivering exceptional experiences for both in-person and virtual events, ensuring flawless execution of high-profile meetings and programs. Collaboration is essential—youll work closely with internal teams and external partners to leverage both live event technology and virtual platforms. This position will be seated on our North Campus in Salisbury NC.
Position Details:
- Status: Full-time, 12-month position
- Reports to: Director of Governance and Community Relations
- Location: On-site (this is not a remote role)
Required Education/Experience:
- Associate degree in Audio/Visual Technology, Information Technology, Media Production, Electronics, and four (4) years of experience providing technical support in audiovisual systems, event technology, or virtual meeting platforms; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Proven experience in managing audiovisual equipment for live events and virtual events.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
- Knowledge of AV equipment, including soundboards, microphones, cameras, projectors, and streaming software.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to respond quickly in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive and professional attitude
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Skills in: Managing virtual event platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, etc.). Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues in real-time. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive attitude. Possesses the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
Positions in this class typically require the following physical activities: reaching, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and performing repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or move audiovisual equipment, cables, and related technology. While some tasks involve sitting at a workstation for virtual event management or troubleshooting, the position frequently requires moving between event spaces, setting up equipment, and supporting live productions. Walking and standing may be required for extended periods during events or installations.

Work Hours: While the position follows a standard weekday schedule (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.), occasional evening and weekend work is required to support events, installations, and early morning and evening events.

Duty and Responsibility:
- Supports the coordination of AV and virtual event operations by collaborating with team members, assigning tasks during installations and events, communicating expectations clearly, and ensuring work is completed safely and according to established procedures. Provides guidance and informal training on AV systems, event technology, and troubleshooting practices to help maintain a high-quality, tech-ready environment
- Oversees all audiovisual operations within the Colleges auditorium, ensuring the space is fully equipped, properly maintained, and event-ready. Manages setup, testing, and operation of sound, lighting, video, and streaming technologies for high-profile events, and coordinates with internal teams and external partners to ensure a seamless, professional experience for all audiences.
- Manages virtual meeting operations for the Presidents Office, including Board of Trustees meetings, Foundation Board of Directors meetings, and other high-profile virtual events. Oversees platform setup, security settings, presenter support, live production, and technical troubleshooting to ensure a seamless and professional experience for all participants.
- Performs a variety of administrative activities, which may include monitoring project timelines and identifying and resolving issues; coordinating cross-department services; preparing and reviewing financial reports; and planning and coordinating events.
- Performs a variety of technical accounting duties, including monitoring budgets, accounts, billings, and/or expenditures. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
