Job Duties:

ECU’s Department of Public Health, Brody School of Medicine, seeks a full-time (12-month, Stated Definite Term), Behavioral Health provider to provide behavioral health services to rural patients via telehealth. This position will function as a member of the public health research team in the implementation of grant-funded school- and home-based programs to assess the effectiveness of delivering telehealth-enabled care directly into patients’ homes or school settings, rather than in a hospital or clinic setting.

This position will work alongside district school nurses, staff, and faculty, as well as medical, dental, and nutrition providers from ECU and other regional partners to provide healthcare to rural children and adult patients both in the school and home settings, and to assess the feasibility of delivering telehealth-enabled care in rural areas with limited broadband capabilities. The behavioral health specialist will deliver brief, short-term, evidence-based behavioral health services to individuals across the lifespan in primary care, home-based, and school-based care settings. Patients will be of all ages.

Clinical Services - 90%

  • Manage caseload at a federally qualified health center, providing integrated behavioral health services within a primary care setting.
  • Deliver remote clinical services to K-12 students across several rural eastern NC school districts, ensuring access to behavioral health support in school-based environments.
  • Complete all associated clinical documentation and administrative tasks related to home- and school-based telehealth services in a timely and organized manner.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, school support staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, whole-person care that addresses both physical and behavioral health needs.
  • Participate in case consultations, clinical supervision, and interdisciplinary care team meetings to enhance patient outcomes.

Quality Improvement (QI) - 5%

  • Support data-driven initiatives by contributing to the development and implementation of quality improvement measures.
  • Collaborate in designing metrics and outcome-tracking tools to meet internal standards and external reporting requirements, including those set by funders and stakeholders.

Community Engagement - 5%

  • Represent behavioral health services in school and community-based settings by attending district-wide meetings, school mental health events, parent-teacher conferences, and other relevant community forums.
  • Foster strong working relationships with educational staff, families, and community partners to enhance service coordination and access to care.

Position is 100% remote; the chosen candidate will be expected to attend in-person events, trainings, etc. throughout the year. Contingent upon the availability of funds.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Masters degree in any mental health discipline. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:

Full or Provisional/Associates License to practice mental health in North Carolina, such as Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Experience in working with medically underserved populations, including children and families, is strongly preferred. Experience with providing mental/behavioral health services via telehealth is preferred, with strong preference for specialized certification and training in this area (e.g., Board-Certified Tele-Mental Health Provider (BC-TMH), Certified Clinical Tele-Mental Health Provider).

Special Instructions to Applicant:

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. At the time of employment, two to three original letters of reference, official transcripts, a criminal background check, and proper documentation of identity and employability are required. Please be aware that if you are selected for an interview, an automatic email will be sent to the individuals entered by the applicant in the References section of the PeopleAdmin applicant tracking system. Letters of reference submitted via the PeopleAdmin applicant tracking system will be verified and considered towards meeting this requirement.

Additional Instructions to Applicant:

In order to be considered for this position, applicants must complete a candidate profile online via the PeopleAdmin system and submit any requested documents. Additionally, applicants that possess the preferred education and experience must also possess the minimum education/experience, if applicable.
