Bioinformatics Analyst
Job Description Summary
The Bioinformatics Analyst is a key member of our research team, responsible for applying computational methods and statistical techniques to analyze and interpret large-scale biological data. The role involves developing and executing data processing workflows for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data and other 'omics' datasets. The ideal candidate has a strong background in computational biology and is adept at collaborating with multi-disciplinary scientific teams to drive biological discovery and advance research goals.
Job Responsibilities
- Data analysis: Process, analyze, and interpret high-throughput sequencing data, including genomic, transcriptomic (RNA-Seq), and single-cell sequencing data.
- Pipeline development: Design, implement, and optimize robust bioinformatics pipelines and workflows for efficient data processing, quality control, and analysis.
- Collaboration: Work closely with wet-lab biologists, clinicians, and other scientists to understand research objectives, formulate analysis plans, and interpret results.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of analysis workflows, code, and methodology to ensure reproducibility and transparency.
- Data management: Assist with the management, storage, and retrieval of large biological datasets.
- Visualization: Create and deliver effective data visualizations and reports to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Continuous learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics, computational biology, and related fields by reading scientific literature and testing new software.
- Tool support: Provide technical support and training to researchers on the use of bioinformatics tools and resources.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genetics, or a related field preferred.
- Proficiency in programming and scripting languages, such as Python and R.
- Solid experience with standard bioinformatics tools and software packages (e.g., Bowtie, GATK, DESeq2).
- Experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
- Strong understanding of molecular biology and genomics concepts.
- Experience with statistical analysis techniques as applied to biological data.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and high-performance computing (HPC) environments is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
