Biology Faculty
Job Details
John Brown University seeks a full-time faculty member to teach in the department of Biology beginning Fall of 2026. Primary teaching responsibilities will include multiple sections of non-major’s biology lecture and laboratories. This course is an integral part of the University’s Core Curriculum. Additional courses could include lectures and/or labs in cell biology, bioethics, human anatomy & physiology, and/or environmental science. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising and recruitment of students, participation in departmental governance, attendance and participation at public events, as appropriate, and service on college and university committees.
Program
The Department of Biology offers courses designed to give students a broad foundation in the principles of biology as well as preparation in specific subdisciplines of biology. The approach taken by the department is to help students understand scientific methods and the key scientific facts, concepts, and theories of life processes, while emphasizing harmony with a biblically-based worldview. Students majoring in Biology are well-prepared for graduate training or careers in a wide range of health-related areas, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistance, and public health. Additionally, the department offers courses that fulfill the Natural Science component of the university Core Curriculum.

Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in a field closely related to Biology
- A committed follower of Jesus Christ
- Ability to teach undergraduate courses including Biological Science (a non-major’s lecture and lab course)
- A commitment supporting teaching-related efforts
- Ability to contribute to the mission and vision of the institution in the department and more broadly at the institution
- A commitment to the integration of the Christian faith and teaching
- A commitment to supporting and collaborating with students, faculty, and staff from varied academic and cultural backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- A doctorate degree in a field closely related to Biology
- Experience teaching undergraduate courses, especially human anatomy & physiology, bioethics, and/or environmental science
- Demonstrated evidence of scholarly potential
- Evidence of successfully teaching, mentoring, or working with people who have different perspectives, life experiences, and cultural expressions
Important Dates
Position begins July 1, 2026. The screening process begins December 17, 2025 and continues until the position is filled.
Salary
A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience.
