Job Description
Great Basin College seeks a broadly trained Biology instructor to join our small, yet dynamic interdisciplinary Science Department at the Winnemucca Center. Teaching excellence is the primary requirement and instructional responsibilities are primarily lower-division core biology classes required for health sciences and general education programs.
Applicant must have experience teaching anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and introductory biology, including significant teaching experience in both in-person and distance education settings with a diverse mix of students. Experience with Canvas LMS platform and synchronous online delivery is preferred.
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position at Great Basin College's Winnemucca Center, located in rural northern Nevada.
The start date will be January, 2026.
Qualifications
- Masters degree in Biology or Science Education or related fields. Ph.D. preferred.
- College-level teaching experience in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and introductory biology.
- Experience using distance-delivery technologies.
- Experience teaching and coordinating lower division science laboratories.
- Familiarity with and the ability to use standard PC tools and software is required, including but not limited to use of word processing, spreadsheets, email, and the internet.
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties as required of all full-time tenured track GBC faculty, such as, non-instructional duties: advising students, committee work, and department duties as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with other team members of the department and college in pursuing departmental and institutional goals with a genuine spirit of cooperation, and flexibility in a diverse college setting.
- Be the face of the Science Department for the Winnemucca community.
- Instructional development, delivery and assessment of assigned courses.
- Managing laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Teach a combination of day, evening, and distance delivery classes (interactive video and Internet) as needed to serve the GBC service area
- Handle administrative duties related to teaching and program development including strategic planning and assessment.
- Travel by car throughout the GBC service area as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation (as per the Americans with Disabilities Act)
- Accept responsibility for professional and personal growth
- Participate in college wide and other committees as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
Compensation Grade
Academic Faculty - 3
B Contract - 9 month (end of August to mid May) working contract paid over 12 months.
The budgeted salary range for this position is $53,414 - $80,000
Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.
