Bladen Early College Liaison
Description
The Bladen Early College Liaison serves as the primary intermediary between Bladen Community College (BCC) and Bladen Early College High School (BECHS). The Liaison supports the successful partnership of BCC and BECHS by facilitating regular communication and collaboration between the institutions. The Liaison, on behalf of BCC, advocates for and provides support to BECHS, its students, and its mission.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Support BECHS students in achieving their academic goals through advising and registration.
- Assist BECHS students with four or five-year plans of study combining secondary and postsecondary coursework to ensure the attainment of an associates degree or two years of transferable college credit.
- Assist BECHS students in developing schedules that support gradual transitions into increasing levels of independence in postsecondary coursework.
- Collaborate with secondary and postsecondary staff to ensure coordination of high school and college schedules that allow access to required coursework.
- Assist BECHS staff in developing policies for awarding high school credits for college coursework.
- Maintain knowledge and be abreast of the Cooperative Innovative High School (Career and College Promise) guidelines, transfer articulation agreements such as the NC Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (“CAA”), course equivalency tables, bi-lateral agreements specific to certain academic programs, transfer resources, requirements, and regulations.
- Use an early alert/advising system to monitor student grades, progress, and attendance to intervene as needed.
- Connect students to resources and support services such as myBCC Connect portal, placement testing, financial aid, career services, disability services, and tutoring/writing center.
- Provide students with in-depth college information and policy interpretation relevant to their academic progress (i.e., graduation requirements, transfer information, counselors, etc.).
- Knowledgeable about specific populations and their unique challenges and barriers.
- Monitor advisees progress and provide regular, customized feedback to students.
- Facilitate cooperative planning to align secondary and postsecondary expectations and policies.
- Maintain appropriate records and reports. Share data with BECHS appropriate to promote student success.
- Maintain an open line of communication with the BECHS principal and staff. Participate in meetings to discuss the needs of students and staff of BCC and BECHS. Provide progress checks for students and updates to the BECHS principal.
- Connect BECHS students to student life on campus, assist with campus activities, and participate in events that promote BECHS and academic celebrations. Collaborate and assist with the orientation of new students.
- Attends conferences/seminars and staff professional development courses as required.
- Serves on appointed institutional committees as needed.
- Maintain a professional and positive relationship with students, faculty, staff, and outside constituents. Promote continuous improvement of the BCC/BECHS partnership.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Performs other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least two years of experience in high school advising, higher education, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of faculty, students, other community or civic groups, or visitors to the college. Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.
