This role sits within RMID’s Operations & Strategic Planning team, which underpins the directorate’s core functions and drives improvement and innovation across research support services. About the role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Business Support Officer to join our Operations & Strategic Planning team within the Research Management & Innovation Directorate (RMID). This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of RMID’s core business operations, supporting a wide range of activities including HR processes, financial transactions, governance coordination, and internal communications.
Reporting to the Director of Service Improvement & Operations, you will work closely with RMID leadership and stakeholders across the university to deliver efficient and professionalised support. You will play a key role in coordinating governance meetings, supporting strategic planning cycles, and contributing to the delivery of the directorate’s project portfolio. Your responsibilities will also include budget monitoring, data reporting, and supporting staff experience initiatives.
This is a dynamic and varied role that offers broad exposure to the operational landscape of research support at King’s. You’ll need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong task management abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be confident working independently, managing competing priorities, and building effective relationships across teams.

This is a full time (35 hours per week), offered on an indefinite contract.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Proficient IT skills (including Office 365 suite - Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience of utilizing digital technology in day-to-day work.
- Effective at working independently, and as part of a team, able to take own initiative & decisions with a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrable excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to receive, understand and relay information of varying complexity to internal and external stakeholders across seniority levels.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of applying and working with policies and procedures of relevance to the role, e.g. financial regulations, procurement processes and procedures, HR processes
- Exceptional task management skills and ability to work under pressure in a busy environment with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent numeracy skills with the ability to manage budgets, track expenditure and provide budget monitoring information
Desirable criteria
- Experience of servicing committees to high standard.
- Ability to understand and analyse data and produce an output.
- Keen interest in higher education research in the UK and an awareness of current challenges in the sector.
Grade and Salary: £39,076 - £43,909 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance
